Chowchilla , CA
Sierra Golf Management (SGM, Inc) announced today that the City of Lemoore has awarded their company a 15-year lease at the iconic Lemoore Golf Course. The City-owned golf course has been in continuous operation since 1928, nearly 92 years. First opened as a 9-hole golf course, the course was remodeled and the additional 9-holes were opened in 1991.
“It is always exciting to us to add a golf course like Lemoore GC to our portfolio”, quipped Dan Bacci, long-time COO of Sierra Golf. “Equally exciting is the opportunity to add a long term lease structure that allows us to allocate large capital dollars back into the infrastructure and really set this golf course up for long term success”.
Bacci said that the first order of business is to transition the current putting green surfaces into a sustainable playing surface that is better suited to the hot, dry climate of the San Joaquin Valley. This will take place immediately and consequently, they will be closing the course for 8-weeks. During this closure all 18 greens and all practice greens will be planted into “Champion Dwarf Hybrid Bermuda” This 21 st Century grass thrives in hot climates but has extremely smooth surfaces and playability.
SGM successfully transitioned Belmont Country Club in Fresno in 2017 and according to Bacci has been a huge success.
Other immediate major improvements will be a complete remodeling of all the sand bunkers on the course. This includes reshaping, new drainage, and new, bright sand. SGM is also investing over $500k in new maintenance and mowing equipment, all scheduled to be delivered within the first 90 days of operation or sooner. “
Equipment is the key to a successful operation and we will be bringing in nothing but the best” says Bacci, “once we get the golf course moving in a forward direction then our marketing programs will really take hold here, this is going to be an exciting project and we feel should be the gold standard for other public/municipal golf courses to follow”.
According to Bacci Lemoore Golf Course becomes the 19th golf course in Sierra Golf Management’s large portfolio of golf courses.
